Yet another one on globalisation!

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
here i come with yet another blog on globalisation..today's news about UAW workers strike demanding job guarantee is an alarming one..''GM could lose $100 million a day due to the strike in the short run, analysts estimated. If the strike extends to a month and production is lost in Canada and Mexico, GM could burn up to $8 billion as end-of-the-month costs add to the tab, analysts said.'' This is what WSJ reports...the world has seen many benefits of the pheneomenon already..may be its now time to think about the byproducts..:)

The best book i've come across

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

aaah! wat a book i have just finished reading...This is kind of a truth or dare game we used to play when we were kids...Lee Iacoca fires out on George Bush and the Americans with mind boggling facts and figures...I thought Iacoca was only good at car business..but this book shows he is a President material..true patriot he is..no wonder i became a huge fan of him..The good thing about the book is that not only he prioritises the biggest problems US is currently facing..he alternatively suggests feasible solutions to tackle them properly..that is called true leadership!! His experiences are great to know..At 82, he is proactive in giving back to the society through innumerable forms..In this book, he urges american citizens to safely choose their leader in the coming 2008 elections..I would give a 4.5/5.0 to his work and highly recommend everyone to understand the true picture of what's happening in America, impact of them on other countries, where the world is heading and the issues that are to be immediately addressed. Now that i'm done with this..i'm picking up Iacoca's autobiography..will come with a review on it soon..

dog shit with icecream

'If you mix dogshit with icecream, the resultant would taste more like dog shit than ice cream'. This is what my prof taught me today in portfolio mangement class..This was the only thing that i could understand in a 3hr class where 80 students stared at one single professor who took us through some 30 odd ppt slides and a dozen spreadsheets..hmm..to speak straight..things are getting tougher day by day....a class finished is equivalent to an assignment due..never did i do a single assignement on my own in my undergrad..now i'm takin the beatin.. the only thing that provides me a little bit of solace is this:

New life..new friends..raised hopes and enuf challenges ahead..

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Life has taken a sharp curve..I was pretty sure during my college years that i am not the typical guy to chase the US dream..atleast as a student..After college, a 1 year stint at sun micro and almost an yr job changed my view..a tough decision to make..but having convinced that it is a wise decision, i finally landed here..Stuart School of business, IIT, Chicago.

The school looks decent enough..A so-called multicutural exposure boiled down to just mingling of two countries..India and China sudents account for 95% strength in master degree programs at our univ...well..and US too..no wonder they feel alien in their own country..I haven't interacted much with the Chinese yet, but having travelled a little bit and going through a couple of books has helped me notice some intresting facts on US culture..One thing i really admire is the way they greet one another..irrespective of who you are and whatever is going in their mind..they make it a point to greet very politely..the fact that they are home to ppl from all over the world speaks volumes of the broadmindedness of US people..

Coming here opened up avenues to meet up with more people..some of them already became good friends..I'm lucky to find such a good company..will be looking forward to find more of them..ppl here are always busy..the Chinese always submerged in the corners of the library..desis working overtime in illegal part-time jobs to support their living..The Chinese are ofcourse blessed to be born in their country..their govt pays their fees and offers stipend well above what an indian student can earn by slogging day and night in part-time jobs..The acads part is not very difficult..pppl manage to get good grades..but what really matters is what u have gained by studying beyond what the prof has taught..There is a lot of serious reading required to develop practical knowledge and be prepared for the career fair..

Life here is not so diff from that in India..just that u have to do your chores by yourself..:( i might still take a little time to settle down here..Once done, I will try to blog frequently till the time i am free..(i haven't yet decided whether to do a part-time or not)..till then..signing off...
